Katie's First Shoot

It was a warm August afternoon and Katie was excited about her first Sleeping Beauties video shoot. I was reading over the script ideas when she arrived. I knew it would be fun to work with Katie, but, I had no idea...

We talked about our objectives for the shoot and the three stories: "The Heimlich Maneuver," "Drac, The Hustler" and "Tarantula." Katie was enthusiastic and a little nervous. All eyes would certainly be on her... We moved inside to begin shooting...

The first scene would find Katie choking on her drink, only to be discovered by the maintenance man just before she passed out. She did an excellent job and it felt wonderful to hold her limp body - she was light as a feather... Katie was a little uncomfortable with the role, since I asked her to let some of the drink run out of her mouth after I placed her down on the sofa. Katie was wonderful...

The next scene was, "Drac, The Hustler." Katie would be playing a solo game of Eight Ball, when Drac would arrive on the scene and taste her sweet neck. After she passed out, Drac would lift her from the pool table felt and carry her away... Again, Katie was wonderful! Her confidence seemed to build with each scene. I did notice something happening to her energy level, though. She seemed visibly tired - oh her heart was still very much in the shoot - it seemed almost like she was drugged.

After we finished with Drac's visit, we talked about, "Tarantula," where Katie was laying down for a nap while watching TV and is bitten by a huge spider.

She played that scene flawlessly, completing the shoot in only about three hours! I messed around and teased her with the huge furry spider -she got a good, nervous laugh out of that - she is really scared of spiders! Then Katie went to change and I reviewed my calendar...

Katie came back and we talked about future dates... We shook hands and Katie rose from where she was seated - that's when it happened! Katie stumbled as she stood up - I thought she was just playing around - improvising a scene - that's when I realized that she was actually very dizzy and disoriented. I stood up to help steady her and it looked to me like she was about to faint. She said that she hadn't eaten all day so that she wouldn't be too heavy to carry - just as she said that her head dropped on to my shoulder. In a moment, her entire body went limp. Oh my God, this kind of stuff isn't supposed to happen - this is just fantasy! She looked so beautiful hanging in my arms - but I knew I had to do something. I sat down with her in my lap to see if she would come to... I gently patted her cheeks - nothing - she was out!

I had to do something! I decided to carry her to the kitchen to get a cold cloth and some juice to raise her blood sugar level. As I stood up and started to walk, Katie moaned - by the time we made it to the kitchen, she was coming to. She drank some orange juice and in about half an hour, she was feeling much better. I told Katie that I usually supply food for the shoots, but since it was late afternoon, I figured everyone would have already eaten. She was embarrassed - I told her that if she was going to faint, she certainly picked the right place to do it! What a Sleeping Beauty! Katie.......
